London, 10th February – Expedia’s Valentines travel trends reveal that home is certainly where the heart is this year, with UK cities seeing a huge increase in popularity over the Valentine’s Day period. Three of the top ten booking destinations are UK cities (London, Edinburgh and Manchester) - now making up over 30% of Valentine’s bookings.

London, 21 stJanuary 2011:People from around the world have booked their seat for the biggest event of the year, as Expedia.co.uk reports a giant 266% rise in bookings to London for the Royal Wedding - the biggest tourist event of 2011.

Travel industry disruptions result in increase in domestic holiday bookings

 

A turbulent year in the travel industry – including the recently averted BAA strikes and the collapse of various travel and tourism companies – has meant that Brits are holidaying at home to avoid disruption and disappointment. There has been a 22% increase in domestic bookings for holidays this summer compared to the same time period last year, reports leading travel booking website, Expedia.co.uk. 

Recent fears of disruption around the August Bank Holiday show that this increase is particularly pronounced with domestic bookings for the Bank Holiday weekend increasing by more than 30% vs. the 2009 Bank holiday.

The Expedia Travel Bookings Report is based on search and booking data across 19 Expedia sites worldwide. It provides an insight into the way that different nationalities book and manage their travel.
